Why It's Going to Be Great
Ambergris Caye: The largest of Belize's nearly 200 cayes is an isolated vacation paradise linked to the mainland only by commuter planes and water taxis. The capital of the carefree and casual life has no paved roads, no traffic lights, and no high-rise buildings. Most resorts are oceanfront.

Flores - Tikal: The Peten is an area of exuberant tropical jungles teeming with wildlife, deep forests, and dry plains dotted with lakes and Maya cities. There are three reasons to delve into the forests here: first, to visit Tikal, the greatest Maya religious center ever discovered; second, to enjoy the great variety of birdlife; and third, to see the traditional Guatemala of small farming villages and jungle hamlets, without a hint of paved roads or colonial architecture.

Guatemala City: The capital of Guatemala is the largest city in Central America. Founded in 1776, it's a blend of modern sleek glass skyscrapers and grand colonial architecture. Its main tourist attraction is the Historic Center, which houses the Central Market, the National Palace, and colonial churches dating from the 17th century. The Ixchel museum is also here and well worth a visit. The tourist area is known as Zona Viva and includes most of the city's upscale hotels, restaurants, shops, and nightlife spots.
